Settela (Anna Maria Steinbach), where to and why?

A famous photo.
Not a Jewish girl as everyone thought for years, but a gipsy girl.
She got her name back thanks to the writer Aad Wagenaar.
You can read the story in his book: Settela - Het meisje heeft haar naam terug.
Whereto?
July 31st 1944 she died in a gas-chamber in Auschwitz.
Why?
Because she was a gipsy.
Reason enough to die.
Being a gipsy was enough reason not to have the right to live.
The Nazi's did it.
Not us.
We didn't know.
What has changed throughout the years?
The war ended.
We all knew that this should never happen again.
But still.
Being a gipsy is enough reason not to have the right to live.
To live like you and me.
You couldn’t help then.
You didn’t know.
Now you know.

You can and must help.

Not without a reason
How meaningless was this death of the nine years old Settela?
How meaningless is the death of many children in Roma camps in Eastern Europe?
They lack everything.
But most of all they lack attention. Our attention. Your attention.
Together we must spread the news.
We need money and ideas to find a long-term solution.
We need fantasy and knowledge.
We need the spirit to carry on.
Don’t let this vicious circle become a deadly one.
Don’t let them become victims again because they are Gypsies.
At this very moment racism is the cause of lots of deaths.
Now you know.
Now you can do something about it.
